Ozempic for weight loss: Does it work?

The pursuit of rapid weight loss in Kenya has led to the use of Ozempic, known generically as semaglutide. Ozempic was approved in 2017 by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for use in adults with type 2 diabetes.

Ozempic is a prescription-only medication, but it’s being sold over the counter in some places, raising concerns over its misuse. This drug is injected into the stomach, thigh, or arm once a week. Semaglutide has gained fame in Hollywood, where image is everything. Celebrities like Oprah Winfrey and Elon Musk have opened up about using Ozempic injections to lose weight. People using this drug have reported losing 10-15% of their body weight.

In Kenya, celebrities like Pritty Vishy and Lydia Wanjiru have reported the use of Ozempic, which has made them lose a considerable amount of weight.

Although the results may be visible within a short period, users should be aware of the potential risks.

Medical experts warn of the long-term complications, including loss of muscle, which can lead to metabolic issues. Children, Pregnant and breastfeeding mums cannot use the semaglutide.
